Seattle Drum School hosts
a variety of ensembles and workshops geared towards educating
students in a group situation. These classes focus on structured
rhythm section skills as well as instrumental improvisation.
Group
sessions help to develop the musicians' awareness and sensitivity to
their musical environment while continuing to strengthen fundamental
performance skills.
Fall 2003 Youth Percussion Ensemble
Starting in October Seattle Drum School will be starting a new ensemble for
students 12-16 yrs old. The ensemble will work on various genres of music
and ultimately perform them. Ensemble situations give students the experience
of playing in a group and open their musical doors to all the instruments in

Fall 2003 Djembe Ensemble
The Seattle Drum School is pleased to announce the start of a new
Djembe ensemble. The ensemble will be led by Carla Becker and will start in October.

Blues Ensemble
An introduction to blues playing in an ensemble context.
In these four weeks we will look at some basic blues progressions and have
the opportunity to play in a group context. Emphasis will be given to some
basic blues scales and melodies for improvisation. Songs in the styles of
Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton will be featured.
Jazz Ensemble I, II, & III
Study concepts of improvisation from beginning through
advanced levels. Jazz Ensembles meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
nights. New classes start every eight weeks.

Big Band for 7-12 graders
An opportunity for teens to learn the basic fundamentals
of playing in a band. This class takes a broad musical perspective
and allows the students to develop their own style.
Afro-Cuban Ensemble
Part of SDS
World Rhythms, this ensemble explores the music of Cuba, Brazil, and West Africa
through the study of rhythms and songs performed on traditional
instruments. Wednesdays at 7:30.
Rhythm Lab
Open to all musicians
and levels of ability this class is designed to increase the
physical and mental coordination of the body through the study of

Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Poncho Foundation, Artist Trust, and Meet The Composer. Kevin studied performance and composition at Cornish
College of the Arts, and Portland State University as apprentice to the pianist and composer Andrew Hill.
