Steve Smith &#8211; from the Seattle Drum School, not Journey &#8211; gave me an easy to digest, yet incredibly deep approach to practicing independence\u2026<br \/>Here\u2019s a sample page from an upcoming book by Steve Smith, one that I was introduced to years ago and still use, incorporating various stickings or rudiments around the kit. The basic exercise as written isn\u2019t difficult, but being able to vocalize the counting as well as singing individual hymns is the real challenge. It\u2019s an excellent way to calibrate your time and feel with a backbeat at the core, making it both familiar and immediately musical.
