Giving Tuesday is December 3rd , 2024!
Have you heard of Means for Dreams Foundation (meansfordreamsfoundation.org) yet? Let us give you a snapshot: This foundation is meant to carry on Seattle Drum School of Music’s mission to provide high quality music instruction to everyone who approaches us, regardless of ability to pay. Out of our own pocket we have provided a minimum of $20,000 per year for the last 20+ years of lesson subsidies and full tuition to our students. As our ability to do this has recently been curbed by the pandemic lockdown and the saturation of music schools in our proximity which have both affected our student load, we needed to find a way to keep our mission going and even growing – not just for us and our students for the obvious reasons, but for the value added to the music community at large when every voice is heard, so to speak.
This is the way forward: Means for Dreams Foundation was formed to keep lessons available to anyone who desires, no matter their income. Last year the foundation provided 25 students with this opportunity, totaling $22,000 and this year we are partnering with Giving Tuesday and GoFundMe with the goal of raising $30,000! Giving Tuesday (December 3 rd ) provides, it states on their website, “an opportunity for people around the world to use their individual power of generosity to support their communities.”
This is what we ask of you – that through our Means For Dreams Foundation GoFundMe fundraiser
(https://www.gofundme.com/f/donate-to-bring-music-to-underprivileged-kids), you contribute what you are able, knowing that your generosity will have an immediate impact on children and adults who want to learn or improve their skills on an instrument, not to mention their self-esteem, joy, and sense of community. Then amplify your impact by posting about and sharing it to any and everyone that you know it will resonate with. Let’s create a “tidal wave of generosity” (credit Kathleen Murphy Toms, Giving Tuesday)!
We end with this, “earth without art is just, eh.”
With Love,
Kristy and Steve Smith

testimonial
“Raising a blind, autistic daughter who came into this world with a host of medical issues put us on a parenting path that has been arduous and lacking in support from the usual and ubiquitous realms designed to help parents. Not many camps or extra-curricular activities were able to accommodate our unique girl. We are so grateful for music in Zoe’s and our lives, so grateful to Means For Dreams Foundation for the huge role they have had in providing that access, especially when we have gone through times of financial hardship. Music connects and music heals.”
