About Steve Smith
Steve C. Smith is a drummer, educator, author, and founder of the Seattle Drum School of Music. Since founding the school in 1985, it has grown into one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected music education institutions, serving hundreds of students with a large faculty of professional instructors.

Steve’s students have gone on to perform with nationally recognized artists and groups including Death Cab for Cutie, REM, Ministry, King Crimson, Blue Man Group, Fitz and the Tantrums, and more. As a performer and educator, Steve has spent decades developing practical approaches to rhythm, movement, coordination, and musical understanding.

His book Keys to the City distills decades of study into a practical framework connecting rhythm, technique, creativity, and musical expression.
